About Gold Bullion Price Chart
Gold Bullion Price Chart is an independent reference site for one number and everything that depends on it: the price of gold. We publish the live spot price, a chart back to 2000, per-unit and per-karat values, calculators for jewelry, scrap and coins, and plain-language guides to what those numbers mean for people who own gold or are thinking about buying it.
We're a small publisher, not a dealer. We don't buy or sell gold, hold anyone's metal, or take orders. That independence is the point of the site: a gold price page that isn't also trying to sell you the gold can explain the gap between the price and the offer honestly.
Where our prices come from
Every price on this site comes from one of two named sources:
Spot price: gold-api.com. The headline price at the top of our pages, and every per-gram, per-karat, per-coin and calculator figure derived from it, comes from gold-api.com's live spot quote for gold (XAU) in US dollars. It's a wholesale spot figure, the price of one troy ounce of pure gold for immediate settlement.
Chart and history: COMEX gold futures via Yahoo Finance. Our charts, the year-by-year history table and the all-time-high figures come from the daily closing prices of COMEX gold futures (ticker GC=F), retrieved through Yahoo Finance's public chart data. Futures provide a clean daily history back to 2000, which spot feeds generally don't.
The two sources measure slightly different things, so they won't match to the penny. Futures normally trade a little above spot. We label each figure with its source, and our homepage explains the difference under "Why Gold Quotes Disagree". The silver price used for the gold-to-silver ratio comes from the same two providers.
What we don't use: we don't embed third-party price widgets, and we don't estimate or interpolate prices. If a day's data is missing, that day is left out of the chart, not filled in with a guess.
How often prices refresh, and what happens when a source fails
About once a minute, while you're on a page. Headline prices, per-gram and karat values, coin and bar values and our calculators all update from the live spot quote about once a minute for as long as a page is open in your browser. Updates pause while the tab is in the background.
Several times a day, for everyone. Separately, an automated job fetches fresh data from both sources, rebuilds every page with the new numbers, checks the site for errors, and publishes it. That rebuilt price is what you see if JavaScript is off, and what search engines read. It's also the only place our charts, history table and all-time-high figures change, because those are built from daily closing prices.
The timestamp shown beside each price is always the time of the data, not the time you loaded the page.
Stale beats blank. If a source is down or returns something that fails our checks, we keep publishing the last good data with its original timestamp rather than showing an empty chart or a made-up number. You may occasionally see an older timestamp than you expect. That's the system being honest about the age of its data.
Delay. Our prices aren't a trading feed. Between refreshes, the market moves. For a live transaction price, ask the dealer or buyer you're dealing with, and use our figures to check whether their quote is reasonable.
Weekends and holidays. Gold markets largely close from Friday afternoon to Sunday evening (US time), so weekend pages show Friday's price with Friday's timestamp.
Editorial standards
Facts are sourced and dated. Specifications like coin weights, karat standards and hallmark rules come from issuing mints, standards bodies and regulators. Figures about companies come from their own published terms and from public records such as the Better Business Bureau, and we state when we checked them.
Calculations are shown. Every value on this site is arithmetic on the spot price that you can repeat yourself: weight × purity × price. We show the formula and worked examples so nothing depends on trusting a black box.
No invented people, reviews or ratings. Our content is written and reviewed by our editorial team. We don't use fake author personas, star ratings we haven't earned, or testimonials.
Not financial advice. We publish prices and explain how they work. We don't tell anyone what to buy, sell or hold, and nothing here is personalized financial, tax or legal advice.
Honest limits. Where a number is an estimate, like typical payout ranges or inflation-adjusted comparisons, we say so and give a range rather than false precision.
How we make money (full disclosure)
This site is free to use and has no subscriptions or sign-ups. It's funded by one affiliate relationship:
Augusta Precious Metals. Some pages include links to Augusta Precious Metals, a company that helps people hold physical gold and silver, mainly in self-directed IRAs. If you click one of those links and open an account, we may earn a commission. It costs you nothing extra, and it doesn't change the price you pay.
How we handle that relationship:
- Every affiliate link is labeled as sponsored, marked
rel="sponsored"for search engines, and accompanied by a disclosure where it appears, including inside the pop-up that shows on some visits. - We only show the Augusta link where it fits the reader. Pages mostly used by people selling gold, like our karat, scrap and coin-value pages, don't carry an affiliate button. They carry neutral guidance for sellers instead.
- We say who Augusta isn't for. Its $50,000 minimum makes it unsuitable for small purchases, and our buying guide says so plainly.
- Payment doesn't buy coverage. Augusta doesn't review or approve what we write, and our prices, calculators and guides would read exactly the same without the relationship.
We may also mention other sites, including our sister site on silver prices, without any payment involved.

Prices update automatically, but written content is maintained by people, and people make mistakes.
